Proč nemoc králů?
Proč se říká dně nemoc králů či nemoc bohatých?
Tento název souvisí s rizikovými faktory stravování. Je to nadměrná konzumace masa a alkoholu, kterou si v dřívějších dobách mohly dopřát jen určité vrstvy lidí.
V dnešní době, zvláště v tzv. civilizovaných oblastech, kde je dostupnost rizikových potravin snadná, může nemoc dna zasáhnout prakticky kohokoliv, zejména má-li k tomu dědičné sklony.
Ostatní názvy se odvozují od určité formy dny podle místa ukládání krystalů kyseliny močové a místa vzniku záchvatů, např. zánět kloubů na nohou (zejména palce) se nazývá podagra, zánět kloubů na rukou chiragra,a v rameni omagra.
